Inverse Square Law
Safety Notes
As with any science lab, you should be careful when doing the
Desktop Stars experiments!
General safety tips:
- Any jewelry (like necklaces or bracelets) which hangs down
should be removed. Jewelry can get caught on lab equipment, and
can be an electrical hazard!
- Long hair should be put up while doing lab experiments. Hair
can get caught in equipment or accidentally touch a hot light
bulb or flame.
- Do not eat while doing a lab. It is not safe for you or the
equipment!.
Safety tips for the Brightness and Distance experiment:
- The light bulbs are very HOT and
very FRAGILE. Do not touch or bump
them.
- Watch out for the cords for the lamps. Set up your lamp so
the cord is not easy to trip on.
- The metal probes on the light meters are sharp. Be careful
when holding and using the light meter.
If your light bulb breaks:
- Do not touch or try to clean up the broken glass!
- Let your teacher know right away that the bulb has
broken.
- If you can, turn off AND unplug your lamp. If you can not
get to the plug without stepping on broken glass, DO NOT
unplug the lamp.
