Getting Started

This unit contains activities and assessment for 8th grade physics. The theme is Gravity and orbits. Our goal is to supply teachers and students with
materials that can complement existing materials and fulfill the adopted science standards for the SFUSD. We do not intend to replace or write a text book for 8th grade physics.
Our goal here is to clarify some fundamental concepts involving Gravity and lay a good foundation for the understanding of planetary motion.

Time Requirements

Teacher Preparation: aproximately 30 minutes per activity
Class Time:  Web Activity  - one 45 minute class period
Class Time:  Hands on Actitivity - one 45 minute class period
Class Time:  Introduction and Worksheet - one 45 minute period

Grade Level

The unit was developed with the 8th grade in mind, but it would also be appropriate on the 9th grade level. The grade level should be determined by the mathematical abilities of
the students. Students should be able to plug numbers into equations, but no algebra or trigonometry is required.
